P.O.S. - Never Better

POS - Never Better
All I know is that when I was a kid, calling something a POS was probably the funniest thing ever, and the coolest diss I could muster up. So I can safely say that if I were a rapper, I would certainly not be called POS. Maybe he's tricking us... wants us to think he's bad...

P.O.S. - Never Better
POS's Never Better is not groundbreaking.

The gritty cynicism in his words has been tread and retread a million times over through the decades, handled, worn down, reshaped and shot down by predecessors and legends in every genre where their dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs creeps in, infects the mind, and flows out in lines sometimes bitter or sarcastic or even jovial, but always poignant.

Of course, people invest entirely too much effort into trying to determine the mostly-imagined criteria that goes into labeling any work "groundbreaking".

To put it simply Never Better is a good album. From the cautionary introduction of "Let It Rattle", to the self-deprecating "Low Light Low Life", POS wields his words well with unflappable confidence that never descends into arrogance and a way of expressing himself and his observations free from heavy-handed pedantry.

Combine the above with a rough production that smacks more of style than lack of refinement and, while I'm not quick to call it a modern classic, it shows a great deal more potential down the line for an already-established artist.
