Papa John's XL X-treme Cheese Pizza

XL X-treme Cheese pizza
If there's one thing we really love reviewin' it's a good pizza. They're cheap, delicious, and people sometimes get pretty brave with the toppings, which I can appreciate. This pizza, however, you don't have to be brave to take on. Just hungry.

Papa John's XL X-treme Cheese Pizza
I've always thought that Papa John's was an under-rated pizza place; their pies taste great, and they even give you peppers and some unbelievably greasy garlic sauce to wash it down. Mysteriously enough, I even know some people that don't like it. With their new XL X-treme Cheese pizza, though, that might change. If they're fans of cheese, at least.

Advertised as having "nearly a pound" of cheese, all natural pizza sauce, and their patented X-TRA large hand-tossed crust, this pizza delivers on all fronts, and then some. Let's start with the size. It's enormous. It's apparently 33% bigger than their large pizza, so that should give you some idea as to its gargantuan proportions. It comes in "10 huge pieces", whose hugeness I can indeed verify. The cheese is the main attraction here, though; if you don't like a lot of cheese, absolutely do not get this pizza, because it comes loaded. Think about the layer of cheese on a normal slice of pizza, and then double it, and that's basically this pizza. I dunno about nearly a pound of mozzarella, but it's pretty damn satisfactory. And I like a lot of cheese. The crust is equally delicious; it's thick and doughy and chewy, and blends great with the thick layer of cheese. The sauce, to top it all off, is tangy and fresh tasting, and has been toned down a smidge to give the cheese the spotlight.

Now, here comes the best part. I'm pleased to announce that all of this goodness is available to you for a very, very reasonable price of $12.83. THIRTEEN bucks?! You can't even get a large pizza at Pizza Hut for that! For example, the Italian Meat Classicana pizza, a much lesser pizza, will run you a cool $15. Poor college guys, you have found your holy grail. It'll fill you right up with 8 pieces (basically a full pizza) to spare. Capitalize on this beast while you still can; it's entirely worth it.

I can't remember the last time I had a cheese pizza. $13 bucks is a good deal...33% larger than their large...Is their large 14"? So it would make it around 18 or 19"...that's huge.

Ryan, I assume they're claiming the area--not diameter--is 33% bigger than their large. So, if the large is 14", that would make the XL a hair over 16".

You might want to take some psyllium, anon.

Or see a doctor. Either one.
