Doritos Flavor Shots

Atomic Chile Limon and Blazin Buffalo Rush flavor shots
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, it has come to this point: Doritos Flavor Shots. You can now grab a syringe full o' delicious, ready that arm, and prepare for a 'rush', if you will, of flavor. Just kidding. They want you to pour flavor in a bag so they don't have to.

Doritos Flavor Shots - Atomic Chile Limón & Blazin' Buffalo Rush
While the recent Tacos at Midnight and Late Night Jalapeño Poppers were some of the most delightful tortilla chips on the market, they left a pretty high standard for Frito Lay and Co. If you're skeptical while viewing their newest product, Doritos Flavor Shots, you have every right to be. If you read into it, you'll soon realize that all that you're actually buying is a plain bag of Nacho Cheese Doritos with a 30 cent extra, DIY packet of Todos flavor dust. Finding it hard to believe this, I actually poured the bag into a bowl and ate several without flavoring just to make sure that they were actually selling this. Junk food is junk food right? Why do we need this insane Ramen Noodle-esque flavoring packet? Can't they do this in the factory and save us some hassle?

Well yeah, they totally could. But just like putting your own sprinkles on those danimals yogurts you hate to admit you love to eat, this is just a fun part of the experience. Remember a few years ago when you could order a cheese flavor packet for your fries at burger king, and mix it all up in a bag? Well even if you don't, that's pretty much exactly the gimmick they're going for, but instead of plain ol' cheese fries, Doritos is mixin' it up with Nacho Cheese times Atomic Chile Limon or times Blazin' Buffalo Rush, whichever sounds more up your alley.

As typical with most of us We Rate Stuff-ites, good buffalo sauce Is a huge deal, so guess where I started. Thankfully, one of the first major things you taste in the sauce is heat! A sensation far too lacking from entirely too many chips. Blazin' Buffalo is one of the flavors that truly deserves the term Blazin', and downright puts the Buffalo flavored Doritos Mashups to shame.

By the time I got around to Atomic Chile Limón, I succumbed to my inner child; I poured the flavor shot into the bag, and shook it like there was no tomorrow. The flavor is such a great blend of Tex-Mex flavors,it would make even Bobby Flay jealous. The spicy heat of the chile lights up your mouth quite quickly, although it leaves as fast as it comes with a cooling spray of lemon and lime. Both chips blend incredibly well with the Nacho Cheese flavor of the Doritos to make both options a good choice. Whether you're craving New York style Buffalo or South of the Border style sweet chile, flavor packets may be some of the best chip enhancers since dip.

I find these to be fascinating. Couch potatoes will not like it though because there are too many steps involved, although I guess they could just skip the flavor packet.

I really think they need to ditch the packet and just gog it on the chips for us. The chile limon is amazing and I want to buy a full bag of it.

I had some and spent the entire time coughing up flavour dust. Terrible stuff.

Testimony!

Just walked back from the corner store, bought a bag of these because the Chile Limon concept grabbed me.

Ate half the bag and became thoroughly disappointed. "Traditional Nacho Cheese Doritos? Where is the innovation? Where is the Chile Limon?" At thought point I put the flavor packet in my mouth.

Perhaps it's due in part to the fact that I'm a little drunk, but I hardly think that's a real component. I really am not a fan of having to read directions in order to eat a bag of chips. If I were buying, say... a frozen burrito, I'd understand the need to read some directions. Doritos though? Are you kidding me? Damn shame the flavor packet is excellent though, because this product is simply going to create confusion. Nobody reads the backside of the chip bag looking for a "how-to guide," and the words "Flavor Packet Inside" on the front is barely noticeable when contrasted against all of the other festive colors and designs plastered everywhere else. 7 for taste, 1 for execution.

Haha, I couldn't agree more. I can't believe it's just a bag of nacho cheese chips. The novelty is you have to do it yourself?

Just bought a bag. I though it was already on in and I couldn't taste the Atomic Chili Lime, halfway through the bag I found the seasoning pack. Get ride of the pack and make a new flavour.

the first time i bought a bag i didnt realize i had to add my own flavor. i figured it out before i opened the bag though... blazin buffalo mmmm excellent! i would definitely love to see a big bag of them. as for the extra 30 cents for the flavor dust, most bags of chips are now 1.29 for what they say is more but come on is there really? the extra 30 cents is totally worth it.

you know what i miss though lol the little box thing of doritos and cheese sauce mmmmmm....

Ate the chips. Now I'm staring at a "FLAVOR PACKET" that's caused me to come to this crazy website to find out what it is, only to find out I'm not the only idiot on the planet earth. And here I was, telling everybody, "I'm smarter than the average bear." DUHHHHH!!!! Now I'll have to buy another bag so I can satisfy my curiosity. Yogi would be soooo ashamed of me. DUHHHHH!!!

After reading the comments, I'm so glad to find out I wasn't the only person who didn't realize these were "Do-it-yourself" Doritos.
I ate two of them and wondered why on earth they tasted so much like plain regular nacho cheese.
Then I saw the packet. Even then I didn't get it; I wondered if it was some sort of promotional prize they were sticking in the bags.

Eventually I figured it out and stuck the powder on the chips.

I didn't really care for them, sadly. I just didn't like the combination of cheese and citrus.

The Buffalo ones were slightly better, but I didn't think they were anywhere near being hot and spicy enough. I like HOT spices. These just seemed like plain blah buffalo sauce.

Just my opinion.

Glad you liked them! :)

I bought these again this evening. Yes, I have returned. Another thought just occurred to me, and at this point I'm kind of angry about these stupid chips now.

The normal Doritos at the store by my house are sold at a cost of 99 cents per bag. That's the standard price I've always associated with Doritos and most other chip brands.

The things needed to be done at the factory in order to just simply add the flavoring to these chips is not anything that these people are unfamiliar with. Sure, there's most definitely going to be some costs associated with retrofitting some equipment and so forth, but I really don't believe new equipment would need to be commissioned for the process because Frito-Lay could just as easily stop making any one of the horrible flavors that are out now, already seasoned, to accomplish the task.

Here's the issue; it's 30 cents more. It's a measly amount, admittedly. However, it's also a 30% increase over the standard price of your ready-made Doritos.

So basically I am paying them for the honor of doing their work for them.

Now, if a car salesmen at a dealer sold you a car that costs 20,000 dollars with a factory paint job, but told you that you would have to pay an additional 6,000 dollars (30%) on top of the cost of the car, AND that you'd have to paint it yourself- I ask anyone who stumbles across this, would you make that deal?

It's kind of asinine really... I purchase about 4 bags of Doritos a week. If I systematically purchased these ones with the flavor packet... that's $1.20 extra a week I'd be paying to flavor my own chips. After a straight year of buying these chips, I would be shelling out $62.40.

If you wanted to get real deep into it, you could factor in the amount of time it takes to dump the packet in the bag and shake the hell out of it as to evenly disperse all of the seasoning, which I've found works best to the count of 15. So, 5 seconds to find the packet, open it, and pour it in the bag, 15 seconds to shake it; 20 seconds of time total. 20 seconds times 4 bags week... 1 minute and 20 seconds a week. Using Google's neat calculator function to expedite the process... 18.3 minutes of my life which is spent working on constructing chips that taste good.

So in the hypothetical, I've paid 62 dollars and lost 18 minutes of my life that I will NEVER get back, all at the hands of the Frito-Lay corporation.

It's disgusting. I don't care how good they are, I'm done with this nonsense.

it would actually be one hour and 15 minutes wasted for a year, but i do see your point.

I found these chips at a convenience store, bought the last bag of blazin buffalo shots and fell in love with them. Like half the other people who tried these chips I ate like 3 of them before reading the bag and realizing I had to do some work to get the flavor on the bag. Now that I am hooked on these chips I have been to about 10 different stores and I can't find them anywhere! I feel like a crackhead but at least a crackhead can find some crack when their craving it!

Doesn't anybody put the popcorn dust on at the movie theatre? That's not a lot of work. Neither is the similar concept for Doritos. Same benefits of extraordinary and bursting flavours.
