The Office (S06E01)

The Office S06E01
I would rather eat a whole pie of Alfredo's Pizza Cafe pizza before going another week without The Office, even if that pizza was inside a jello mold. That would be really hard to do - That's what she said.

The Office (S06E01) -"Gossip"
Jim may think that Michael, Dwight and Andy's parkour is a bad idea, but me, I'd love to try rolling in a chair around an office with a video camera yelling, "parkour!" Even though none of them were really even parkouring I have to admire Ed Helms' shoddy attempt to do a sequence of tricks from a truck to a trashcan using some 360 turns and a "backflip gainer". Unfortunately, he doesn't make it past step 1, but Helms will find he's got a bigger issue to deal with. Me? I do backflip gainers like it's no ones business.

Rumors are the subject in this episode and what better way to embrace the fact that Pam is pregnant than to let it spread through rumors, regardless of how bad Michael wants to mess it up. Which, like always, spawns from Michael; after feeling left out of the gossip chain, he uses one of the office's "summer interns" to find out that Stanley is having an affair. Really? Stanley? Brilliant. I am starting to love the execution of the hilarious supporting cast, but then again I guess I always have.

It's just another one of the million reasons I love this show: it's consistent. This episode of The Office plays out just like any other episode would, using everything it always has to keep the show well, the same. Don't get me wrong, there is a line between good and great office episodes, but never between bad and good. This episode could fit under good or great, however you want to look at it. Was this episode funnier than when Andy punches through a wall? No, but with The Office those types of moments always come. In fact, I would say my one and only complaint with this episode was the lack of B.J. Novak.

Another thing I love about The Office is its lenient storytelling. You are not forced to care about Stanley's situation, it's just there. Honestly, I cared more about if everyone in the office was going to think the rumor was true or not and the fact that I am invested in that alone says something. In my opinion though, this episode goes to Ed Helms (as do most episodes), his confusion about his character's sexuality and his desperate-for-an-answer attitude was certainly a highlight of this episode.

The Office is back and comes carrying tools that we are very familiar with, funny situations and quirky writing using all of the cast. Unpredictable situations, that are brought to light or made worse by Michael Scott as always. I'll say it again, consistency. Though, sometimes a lack of that special something that has carried so many episodes and brought us to tears, doesn't prove to be unsatisfying or uninteresting.

Watch this episode of The Office.

BJ Novak is rarely shown in episodes.. but he definitely should be more often. Have you completely caught up on the series?
